Suffolk Univ. Polling on Gov Race: WaPo Endorsement May Hurt More Than Help

Kenton Ngo is blogging tonight about last week’s survey by Suffolk University in which likely voters for Tuesday’s Primary Race for Governor were polled on their candidate preference.

A WaPo endorsement; worth its weight in...paper?

A WaPo primary endorsement; worth its weight in...paper?

From Kenton’s post:

Conventional wisdom has it that going into Tuesday’s primary, Creigh Deeds picking up the Washington Post endorsement on May 22nd legitimized him as a choice to win Northern Virginia.

In fact, Creigh has gone so far as to emblazon “The Washington Post Endorses DEEDS” on 10,000 yard signs, in addition to touting the endorsement in multiple mailers.

This might not be as smart as it seems.

For more, read Kenton’s full post here.

Kenton might be onto something. I wonder: does a WaPo endorsement have any juice?

Creigh has emblazoned it on everything, which surely he is entitled to do. And who wouldn’t be honored to receive a WaPo endorsement?

But does anyone remember who WaPo endorsed the last time we witnessed a down-to-the-wire primary fight? Here’s a reminder.

How’d that turn out?
