Storms a-comin’!

Yet another weak cold front will be moving our way this week and stalling in the vicinity, providing a chance of thunderstorms each day starting tomorrow afternoon. That is to be expected since we are now officially in meteorological summer, that having started June 1st. Most of us are used to thinking about June 21st as the first day of summer, and that's correct from an astronomical point of view with respect to the summer solstice. The weather patterns, however, tend to shift into summer mode closer to the beginning of June, and that's why meteorologists have a skewed perspective of the calendar. The first of June is also the beginning of hurricane season in the Atlantic/Caribbean basins, making the date even more significant to forecasters. Personally, I'm a summer type of guy...
